If you’re a talented athlete, our Performance Sport programme will help you to advance your skills and excel in your sport.
We offer 22 competitive team sports, ranging from American football to beach volleyball, hockey to badminton, netball to lacrosse, and numerous individual sports.
To be selected for TeamBU (our community of Performance Sport athletes), you’ll need to attend trials. If you're already competing at regional, national or international level, you can apply for a BU Sports Scholarship.
As a Performance Sport athlete, you’ll represent BU in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues and competitions throughout the academic year.
You'll also have the support of a Level 2 or higher coach (who'll be with you every step of the way; from advice on successfully balancing your studies alongside your sport to personalised training programmes) and exclusive use of our high-performance gym.
Our Campus Sport programme gives you plenty of opportunities to get involved in sports and activities on campus or at a local venue.
Take your pick from social sport sessions, clubs, courses, adventure sports and leagues. You don't need experience or a high level of fitness, so it's easy to keep active and fit while you study with us.
Campus Social Sport: play a variety of team sports, as and when suits you, as part of our Campus Social Sport programme. Available on a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) basis or make the most of our Annual Premium membership which includes unlimited social sports.
Campus Clubs: benefit from the expertise of a sports coach and structured sessions, from beginner to advanced, in a relaxed and sociable environment. There's also the opportunity to take part in tournaments and, if you show potential, to progress to our Performance Sport programme.
Campus Courses: take part in a new sport or continue with a sport you love as part of our Campus Courses programme. All of our courses are taught by qualified instructors and are available over a number of weeks.
Campus Adventure: make the most of our coastal location and get involved in our Campus Adventure programme. From surfing to snowboarding, kayaking to skiing and paddleboarding, there's plenty of adrenaline-packed, outdoor sports to choose from.
Campus Leagues: play team sports in regular, organised leagues. All matches are refereed and you can track your progress in the league tables.
Group fitness classes
Taking a class is a great way to meet new people. Choose from relaxing classes for the body and mind to high-energy, cardio classes guaranteed to get your heart pumping. You're bound to find something to suit your tastes and energy levels.
All of our classes are led by qualified, fitness instructors in our studios on Talbot Campus and take place morning, noon and night throughout the week – so you can easily choose a class which suits you.
Plus, a number of our membership packages include unlimited classes (so you can book onto as many as you wish) or, if you'd prefer, you can PAYG.
