The Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics includes more than 30 staff members that actively engage with teaching, research and professional practice so as to provide students and external stakeholders with the highest academic inputs that will help them achieve their personal and institutional objectives.

The department is responsible for delivering 8 undergraduate and 7 postgraduate courses to around 1,000 students, as well as PhDs. Currently, the department hosts more than 20 PhD students, who are developing their projects under close supervision of our research-active staff.

Our staff are continuously published in journals, of which more than 50% are in 4 and 3 star-rated journals, such as Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of World Business, Research Policy, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Energy Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance, Economics Letters and Journal of Agricultural Economics. Our research generates an important impact for the local community, business and policymakers alike. In addition, the department is very successful in obtaining external funding for research from the most prestigious funding bodies, including the ESRC, British Academy and European Union.

The department is also accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business that places us among an elite of international business schools. In addition, a high number of our staff have their Fellowship and Senior Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Staff members are also particularly active with learned societies and other academic and non-academic bodies in which they deliver high-quality advice and academic inputs. These include the Regional Studies Association, the European Commission, The Economic and Social Research Council, the British Academy, The Jorg Meyer-Stamer Foundation, and the several Partners in Finance and Accounting such as JP Morgan, Santander, Mazars, among others.
